Basketball Recap: Geniya Parker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead the Webb Schools over Workman

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact The Webb Schools can now relate to. They fell 33-20 to the Workman Lobos on Thursday. The Gauls' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

The Webb Schools' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Geniya Parker, who posted six points in addition to 11 boards and three steals. Parker is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Pristine Thomas, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, The Webb Schools smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Workman's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Iris Campos, who put up nine points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Campos has become a key player for Workman: the team is 7-3 when she posts at least five steals, but 4-7 otherwise. Hilary Lomeli was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

The Webb Schools' loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Workman, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season.

The Webb Schools does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Workman, they will square off against Gabrielino at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Workman's defense has only allowed 30 points per game this season, so Gabrielino's offense will have their work cut out for them.
