Recap: Aptos Mariners vs. Soquel Knights

The Aptos Mariners waltzed into their matchup Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They came out on top against Soquel by a score of 47-34. Given Aptos' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 451st, while Soquel is ranked 1111th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Aptos found their leader in underclassman Gabby Wickham, who scored 20 points along with four steals. The contest was Wickham's 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Berkeley Ashby, who scored five points along with 14 rebounds and five steals.

Aptos pushed their record up to 10-5 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Soquel, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Aptos will head out on the road to face off against Santa Cruz at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Cruz will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Soquel, they will be playing at home against Harbor at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Harbor comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
