Baseball Recap: Big Sandy Has No Trouble Against Martins Mill

After low-scoring totals in their previous six contests, Big Sandy brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They blew past the Martins Mill Mustangs 11-3 on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Cole Orms and Kayden Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Orms tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Smith struck out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (three). At bat, Orms scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Smith scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Smith has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ayden Akin, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Malijah Francis, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Big Sandy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Big Sandy's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Martins Mill, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Big Sandy Wildcats duke it out with Fruitvale Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Martins Mill, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Alba-Golden at 6:00 p.m.
