Softball Recap: St. Pius X Catholic Starts Season with Victory Against Riverwood

St. Pius X Catholic took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They blew past the Riverwood Raiders 10-2. For the Golden Lions, this counts as revenge for the 8-6 win the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

St. Pius X Catholic got a great performance from Maggie Laba as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits.

On the hitting side, Ella Hall was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Merrit Gorman, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Riverwood's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Pius X Catholic will square off against Prince Avenue Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Riverwood, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Cambridge at 6:00 p.m.
