Basketball Recap: Granite Hills' Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Granite Hills hadn't done well against Victor Valley recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Granite Hills Cougars walked away with a 51-41 victory over the Victor Valley Jackrabbits. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Jackrabbits back in January, they had to take a 54-35 loss.

Despite the defeat, Victor Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Arnetta Ealy Newton dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. Ealy Newton is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Fisiilose Amelia, who posted nine points and five boards.

Granite Hills' win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-15. As for Victor Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.

Granite Hills will host Silver Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Silver Valley will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Granite Hills surely won't give up without a fight. As for Victor Valley, they will head out on the road to take on Adelanto at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
