Baseball Recap: Gainesville Takes a Loss

Gainesville extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Vernon Lions, falling 16-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Leopards of the 13-8 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2025.

Dev Patel was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Long, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Vernon's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the game before.

On Vernon's side, TJ Disbrow was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Disbrow a new career-high. Blu Burke was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.

Coming up, Gainesville will venture away from home to square off against Liberty Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Vernon, they will welcome Pampa at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
