Football Game Preview: Evant Elks vs. Mount Calm

Two dominant backs in Edgar Dominguez and Trey Walker are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Evant Elks will square off against Mount Calm at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mount Calm took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Evant, who comes in off a win.

If Mount Calm heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Evant took over last week. Everything went the Elks' way against Buckholts on Friday as they made off with a 54-30 victory.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Evant's defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was Christian Morales with three.

Meanwhile, Mount Calm played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Coolidge 56-26. The matchup marked Mount Calm's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Evant will need to focus on slowing down Colton Peterson, one of several Mount Calm players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 97 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Peterson got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 71 yards. Another player making a difference was Mason Carmean, who threw for 156 yards and two TDs on only 12 passes.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mount Calm fell to 4-1. As for Evant, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Evant was taken down by Mount Calm 77-42 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Elks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
