Piper and Leavenworth are an even 3-3 against one another since September of 2020, but not for long. The Pirates will head out on the road to square off against the PIONEERS at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Piper has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Leavenworth will arrive with three straight wins.

Piper is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Spring Hill on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Pirates were beaten by the Broncos 49-21. The Pirates were down 42-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Roman Byers, who picked up 81 receiving yards, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Piper also got a significant boost from Trent Rymer, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Leavenworth and Shawnee Heights have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The PIONEERS enjoyed a cozy 43-29 victory over the Thunderbirds.

Leavenworth's win came from a few key players Piper will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Braden Bridger, who threw for 232 yards and five touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 79 yards on only 11 carries. Ja`Marion Jefferson was another key player, picking up 72 receiving yards and four scores.

Leavenworth was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 264 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shawnee Heights only rushed for 99.

Leavenworth's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Piper, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
