Baseball Game Preview: Tattnall Square Academy Trojans vs. Piedmont Academy Cougars

For the second straight game, Tattnall Square Academy will face off against Piedmont Academy. The Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Tattnall Square Academy 4.1, Piedmont Academy 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Tuesday, Tattnall Square Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Piedmont Academy and fell 4-3.

For Piedmont Academy's part, Nick Gervasio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. Gervasio also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Cougars are undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 9-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jack Adams, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Piedmont Academy: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Tyler Griswell was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

Tattnall Square Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Piedmont Academy, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tattnall Square Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Piedmont Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
