Softball Recap: Millard West Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Bellevue East

Millard West faced Bellevue East in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Chieftains by a score of 3-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.

Addison Burdorf was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Millard West has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season. As for Bellevue East, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Millard West will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Papillion-LaVista South at 6:45 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Bellevue East, they will head out on the road to square off against Papillion-LaVista at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
