Volleyball Recap: Grand Island Comes Up Short

If Grand Island was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Lincoln High on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Islanders took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bellevue East Chieftains on Saturday. The Islanders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chieftains earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Grand Island's offense was headlined by Emilia Ward and Lilly Goodwin, who picked up five kills apiece. They got some help from Alexa Sackschewsky and her ten assists. Dakin Geiser controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Grand Island has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Bellevue East, with the victory, they broke their six-match losing streak and moved their record to 7-13.

Grand Island didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-1 win against Burke on the 4th. As for Bellevue East, they have also already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against Columbus on the 4th.
