Basketball Game Preview: Justin Garza Guardians vs. Torres Toros

The Justin Garza Guardians will head out on the road to take on the Torres Toros at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Torres took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Justin Garza, who comes in off a win.

Justin Garza took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They secured a 43-37 W over Madera.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Justin Garza to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyla Maxey, who posted 18 points. Maxey's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lailah Whittle, who had 11 points.

Meanwhile, Torres came up short against Hoover on Tuesday and fell 50-41.

Justin Garza will need to focus on slowing down JLynn Mitchell, one of several Torres players who made an impact when they last played. She dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. What's more, Mitchell also racked up five assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Nevaeh Chavez was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Justin Garza's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-16. As for Torres, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 19-9 record this season.

Justin Garza lost to Torres on the road by a decisive 53-39 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Justin Garza avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
