Soccer Game Preview: Washington vs. American

The Washington Huskies will square off against the American Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Washington is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. They never let Mission San Jose onto the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Tuesday. Ismah Raouf was a massive factor in the win as she booted in three goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, American's matchup on Tuesday was close up to the half, which is when they kicked things up a notch. Everything went their way against James Logan as American made off with a 4-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won three games by three goals or more so far this season.

American used a slightly different lineup for their bout with James Logan. Sakiko Itoi played for 80 minutes having averaged 55 this season and Hailey Nguyen got 80 vs. an average of 49. Itoi made the most of the opportunity, putting up one assist A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

American has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 14 goals over those four matches. As for Washington, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2-1.

Washington might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from American when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Washington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
