Softball Recap: Benson Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Benson had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Bryan Bears 18-10. This was payback for the Bunnies, who suffered a 17-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Brooke Lynn Kaiser Bates made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits. Kaiser Bates was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jhelen Suarez Ramirez, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Benson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bryan only posted an OBP of .361.

Benson has already played their next matchup (against Plattsmouth), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Bryan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 20-0 loss against Lincoln Northeast on the 22nd.
