Football Recap: Village Christian's Undefeated Season over After Three Games

After soaring to 43 points the game before, Village Christian was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They lost 35-9 to the Schurr Spartans. The loss put an end to the Crusaders' undefeated start to the season.

Hudson Gerhardt threw for 127 yards on ten of 19 attempts. Kingston Mayfield was his top target, picking up 46 receiving yards. On the ground, DJ Deranja rushed for 46 yards and one touchdown.

Mateo Carrasco was nothing short of spectacular for Schurr: he rushed for 67 yards and three scores. Alberto Chavez got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Having lost for the first time this season, Village Christian fell to 2-1. As for Schurr, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Village Christian will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Paraclete at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. The Crusaders will need to watch out since the Spirits have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Schurr, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 28-23 win against Chino on the 12th.
