Basketball Recap: Camila Alcaraz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead University Pathways Medical Magnet over Animo Watts

With University Pathways Medical Magnet's effective field goal percentage at 67% and Animo Watts's at 31% on Wednesday, the final result was to be expected on Wednesday. University Pathways Medical Magnet took a 68-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Animo Watts Warriors. While losing is never fun, University Pathways Medical Magnet can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 506th, while Animo Watts is ranked 96th).

Several University Pathways Medical Magnet players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Camila Alcaraz, who posted 23 points and five steals. Alcaraz has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia Munguia, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 13 points.

Animo Watts got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mariana Liddell out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 boards. Those 13 rebounds gave Liddell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trisha Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds.

University Pathways Medical Magnet now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Animo Watts, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. University Pathways Medical Magnet will venture away from home to face off against San Pedro at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. As for Animo Watts, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Maywood Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Maywood Academy: 23.6, Animo Watts: 28.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
