Softball Recap: Academy for Classical Education Picks Up Ninth Straight Win at Home

Academy for Classical Education had won nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they bumped up to 1-1 to make it ten. They blew past the Dodge County Indians 10-2. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Gryphons considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Giselle Giles spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Sophie Denney and Avery Stone did most of the damage at the plate: Denney went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Stone got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Reese Thames, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Dodge County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. They haven't had much luck with Academy for Classical Education recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

On Dodge County's side, Riley Graham made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

Academy for Classical Education has already played their next contest, an 8-0 loss against Veterans on the 7th. As for Dodge County, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Bleckley County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
