Softball Recap: Fitzgerald Takes a Loss

Fitzgerald extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-6. They came up short against the Clinch County Panthers, falling 12-3. The Purple Hurricane were not able to make up for their loss to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

As for Clinch County, their record now sits at 6-1. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won four matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

For Clinch County's part, Sophie Corbitt was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Corbitt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addy Barber, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Annalee George also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Looking ahead, Fitzgerald will head out on the road to challenge Turner County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.75 runs per game on average), something the Purple Hurricane will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Clinch County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lanier County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
