Preview: Elk Grove vs. Vacaville
The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vacaville Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Elk Grove had no problem doing just that on Friday. They never let the Cougars onto the board and left with a 4-0 victory. That four goal margin sets a new team best for Elk Grove this season.
Meanwhile, Vacaville had just enough and edged Cordova out 2-1 on Friday. Given Vacaville's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Cordova is ranked 357th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vacaville was led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Dylan Gonzalez and
Owen Holdener, who scored both of Vacaville's goals. The pair have combined for a total of four so far this season.
Elk Grove's win bumped their record up to 8-4-8. As for Vacaville, their win bumped their record up to 14-2-2.
