Basketball Recap: Centennial Picks Up 19th Consecutive Win

Centennial extended their winning streak to 19 on Wednesday, bumping them up to 24-1. They blew past the Bakersfield Drillers 65-42. The Golden Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 20 games by 21 points or more this season.

Shekinah (Kai) Shaw produced another solid effort dropping a double-double with 26 points and ten steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 46 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Keke Shaw, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 21 points.

As for Bakersfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 326th, while Centennial is ranked 35th).

Bakersfield lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kamani Coleman, who posted ten points. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Looking ahead, Centennial will challenge Stockdale at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bakersfield, they will square off against Bakersfield Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Drillers will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 55 points in their last eight matchups.
