Preview: Helix Highlanders vs. Granite Hills Eagles
Helix is 9-1 against the Eagles since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Helix Highlanders will head out on the road to square off against the Granite Hills Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Helix focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
Helix has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell just short of El Capitan by a score of 47-44.
Despite the loss, Helix got a solid performance out of Valerie Marquez, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Marquez has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. Michaelle Whyte was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Granite Hills over the Norsemen in every quarter on their way to victory on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Granite Hills blew the Norsemen out of the water with a 61-24 final score. With Granite Hills ahead 36-12 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Helix's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 15-6. As for Granite Hills, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-9.
Helix skirted past the Eagles 46-43 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Granite Hills' Kerstena Tomika, who scored 25 points. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Helix still be able to contain Tomika? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
