Basketball Recap: Ayala Comes Up Short

Ayala was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a 58-19 loss at the hands of the Bonita Bearcats. The match marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Ayala's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Rachel Chen, who posted seven points, and Addison Gonzalez, who earned six points. That was a full 36.8% of Ayala's points, marking the fourth time in a row Chen has scored more than a third of the team's points.

Bonita was led to victory by Lexi Mercado and Tressa Beatty. Mercado went 8-for-15 on her way to 21 points and eight rebounds, while Beatty went 6-for-12 en route to 17 points. What's more, Mercado also posted a 56% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brooke Van Duyne, who had six points along with five assists and five boards.

Ayala's loss dropped their record down to 11-17. As for Bonita, their victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-6.

Ayala does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bonita, they have already played their next contest, a 66-39 defeat against JSerra Catholic on the 13th.
