Football Game Preview: Basehor-Linwood Bobcats vs. Tonganoxie Chieftains

Two dominant signal callers in Carson Dixon and Bodee Maslak are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Basehor-Linwood Bobcats will take on the Tonganoxie Chieftains at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Basehor-Linwood is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat West 63-6. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Chargers are ranked 179th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Basehor-Linwood found their leader in sophomore Gavin Mitchell, who rushed for 76 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries. Teahen Bradley also helped out with an impressive 84 receiving yards.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Basehor-Linwood, adding 15 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Noah Gutierrez, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Tonganoxie never let their opponents score on Friday. They breezed past Bonner Springs to the tune of 42-0. The win continues a trend for the Chieftains in their matchups with the Braves: they've now won eight in a row.

Basehor-Linwood's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Tonganoxie, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Basehor-Linwood has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 193.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tonganoxie struggles in that department as they've been averaging 155.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Basehor-Linwood against Tonganoxie in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 44-6 victory. In that game, the Bobcats amassed a halftime lead of 27-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
