Football Game Preview: Escalante Lobos vs. Fort Sumner/House

The Escalante Lobos will square off against Fort Sumner/House at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Escalante is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Clayton, who was ranked 17th at the time (Escalante was ranked seventh). The Lobos blew past the Yellowjackets, posting a 50-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Lobos sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Jacoby Valdez was his usual excellent self, rushing for 192 yards and one score while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. Those 192 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julio Lujan, who rushed for 57 yards and a pair of TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Escalante was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 414 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 182 rushing yards in seven consecutive matchups.
