Basketball Game Preview: Mayfair Monsoons vs. Gahr Gladiators

The Mayfair Monsoons will venture away from home to face off against the Gahr Gladiators at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Mayfair is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Mayfair is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Downey on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Mayfair was dealt a 67-32 defeat at the hands of Downey. While losing is never fun, the Monsoons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 930th, while the Vikings are ranked 349th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gahr, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 51-50 photo finish over Lawndale on Wednesday.

Gahr is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Mayfair, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Things could have been worse for Mayfair, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 53-36 loss to Gahr when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gahr's Ella Mims, who dropped a triple-double on ten points, 23 boards, and ten blocks.
