Softball Recap: Pueblo East Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Pueblo East entered their tilt with Mesa Ridge on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 10-5 win over the Grizzlies. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Amilyana Chavez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Laydon, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Luciana Cervantes, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Pueblo East's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Mesa Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Coming up, Pueblo East will be playing at home against Pueblo South at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give the Eagles their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Mesa Ridge, they will head out on the road to take on Mitchell at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
