Softball Recap: Welch Wildcats vs. Foyil Panthers
Welch had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 0-2 to make it eight. They lost 16-4 to the Foyil Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 12-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2023.
As for Foyil, the victory got them back to even at 1-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the game before.
For Foyil's part, Makayla Embree was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Embree was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Dally Carrier and Alexis Boen did most of the damage at the plate: Carrier got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Boen went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Lexie Sargent, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Welch will head out on the road to take on Ketchum at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Foyil, they will be playing at home against Porter at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.67 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
