Basketball Game Preview: Williamsburg Blue Pirates vs. Union Area Scotties

The Williamsburg Blue Pirates will take on the Union Area Scotties at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Williamsburg is headed into Saturday's game hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight losses. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 68-67 heartbreaker at the hands of Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Levada Gorsuch, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. What's more, she also posted an 89% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Anastasia Ranalli, who went 8-for-16 on her way to 19 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Union Area had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 51-40 win over Clairton on Friday. The victory was just business as usual for the Scotties, who after 25 games remain undefeated this season.

Union Area's win bumped their record up to 25-0. As for Williamsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-6.

Williamsburg came up short against Union Area in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 43-37. Can Williamsburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
