Basketball Recap: Santa Monica Comes Up Short

If Santa Monica was feeling good fresh off their 50-5 takedown of Beverly Hills last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Santa Monica Vikings fell to the Lawndale Cardinals 44-40. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.

Lawndale's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Telayia Fuller led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Fuller is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 20 games she's played. Kalani Pearson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.

Santa Monica's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Lawndale, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Santa Monica wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-42 loss against Culver City on the 24th. As for Lawndale, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-14 victory against Inglewood on the 24th.
