Basketball Recap: Clarion-Limestone Comes Up Short

On Wednesday, the Clarion-Limestone Lions were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 39-35 to the Otto-Eldred Terrors.

Despite the defeat, Clarion-Limestone saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hannah Beggs posted 18 points and three blocks. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for Beggs. Corinne Hepfl was another key player, putting up two points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Clarion-Limestone smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

Otto-Eldred got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Rayel Hakes out in front who had ten points and five rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Hakes now owns an excellent 45.3% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayla Van Scoter, who earned nine points.

Clarion-Limestone's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Otto-Eldred, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-4.

Clarion-Limestone wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 34-30 defeat against Coudersport on the 28th. As for Otto-Eldred, they have also already played their next game, a 46-29 loss against DuBois Central Catholic on the 1st.
