Softball Recap: La Junta Comes Up Short

La Junta came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs, falling 8-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 7-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Isabelle Aragon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marli Gonzales made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Rylie Ortiz was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

La Junta's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Pueblo Centennial, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

La Junta didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 4-1 loss against Cheyenne Mountain on the 5th. As for Pueblo Centennial, they have also already played their next contest, an 18-1 victory against Sierra on the 3rd.
