Kaiden Reese had a dynamite game, rushing for 166 yards on only six carries, while also throwing for 98 yards and one TD on only eight passes. What's more, he racked up 134.4 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Tayson Gaxiola did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 84 receiving yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Los Lunas proved: they limited West Mesa to a paltry 3.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Brad Mallory for the heroic effort on defense: he. Los Lunas didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 14.9.
Los Lunas didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. It was a group effort, with five picking up one apiece. Mallory was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble and making 15 total tackles (5.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Albuquerque, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in September. They never let Atrisco Heritage Academy get on the board and left with a 28-0 victory two weeks ago. The Bulldogs' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Los Lunas better keep an eye on Julian Madera. He was instrumental in Albuquerque's win, rushing for 79 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries, while also throwing for 22 yards and one touchdown. Alberto Landeros was another key player, rushing for 117 yards.
Albuquerque now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Los Lunas, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.
Saturday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Los Lunas has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 189.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Albuquerque struggles in that department as they've been averaging 209.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Los Lunas took their win against Albuquerque in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 28-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
