Softball Recap: Walker Extends Winning Streak to Three

Walker proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Rome Wolves 9-8. The victory was familiar territory for the Wolverines, who have now won three games in a row.

Maya Shah spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Olivia San Martin and Lily Brevick did most of the damage at the plate: San Martin went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Brevick went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double was Brevick's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Dylan Koppel, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Walker's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Rome, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season.

Walker does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rome, they will take on Kennesaw Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
