Baseball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Newton and Grayson, and Newton kept the tradition alive. Newton took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grayson on Wednesday. Newton was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Grayson earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Newton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayce Yearwood, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another was Robert 38 Jackson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Newton's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for Grayson, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.

While Newton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:55 p.m. on Friday.
