Preview: Sayre Redskins vs. North Penn-Mansfield Tigers
The Sayre Redskins will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the North Penn-Mansfield Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Sayre comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Sayre struggled with assists on Tuesday (Troy had 15 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Sayre had to suffer through a rough 60-19 loss at the hands of Troy. Sayre has not had much luck with Troy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Elizabeth Shaw was Sayre's leading scorer, having posted eight points.
Meghan Flynn held things down on the boards with seven rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with an assist.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for North Penn-Mansfield, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 43-24 loss to Williamson on Tuesday.
North Penn-Mansfield's defeat came about despite a quality game from McKenna Lightner, who scored six points along with seven rebounds. Lightner has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.
Sayre's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for North Penn-Mansfield, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Thursday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Sayre have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 17.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for North Penn-Mansfield, though, as they've been averaging only 24.4 rebounds per game. Given Sayre's sizeable advantage in that area, North Penn-Mansfield will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sayre came out on top in a nail-biter against North Penn-Mansfield when the teams last played back in January, sneaking past 27-25. Does Sayre have another victory up their sleeve, or will North Penn-Mansfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
