Baseball Recap: Whitko Comes Up Short

Whitko had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 10-8 to make it five. They fell just short of the Columbia City Eagles by a score of 8-7. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

Lewis Skinner made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Andy Shepherd, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs.

As for Columbia City, their win bumped their record up to 12-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 14th.

On Columbia City's side, Maddox Moon was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Moon has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Deckman, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Whitko will face off against South Adams at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Columbia City, they will challenge Bremen at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
