Football Game Preview: Westlake Wolverines vs. McDonough Rams + How To Watch

Westlake is 8-1 against McDonough since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolverines will square off against the Rams at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Westlake has three straight wins, McDonough has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Westlake is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Thomas Stone 47-7. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland football rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Cougars are ranked 159th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Orlando (O3) Moss III and Samari Onyenwe. Moss III rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns while Onyenwe rushed for 91 yards and a pair of TDs. Another big playmaker for Westlake was Mekhi Prather, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Westlake proved: they limited Thomas Stone to a paltry -0.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Jaiden Crawford stood above the rest. He picked up two sacks and made seven total tackles (4.0 for loss). Westlake didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged six.

Westlake's defense didn't let Ethan Jackson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Crawford was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Crawford is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Raymond Jones got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, McDonough came up short against Leonardtown on Friday and fell 14-6.

McDonough's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Westlake, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Everything came up roses for Westlake against McDonough when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 47-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
