Basketball Recap: Murrieta Valley Has No Trouble Against La Costa Canyon

Murrieta Valley's tournament run continued when they took on La Costa Canyon on Saturday. The Murrieta Valley Nighthawks enjoyed a cozy 58-44 victory over the La Costa Canyon Mavericks.

Valerie Lauritzen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 12 for 25 on her way to 31 points and seven rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played dating back to last season. Alysia Maldonado Murray was another key player, putting up eight points along with six assists and five boards.

Murrieta Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Murrieta Valley's record is now 6-4. As for La Costa Canyon, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
