Basketball Recap: Chico Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Chico came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past the Pleasant Valley Vikings with a 51-45 victory. The win was all the more spectacular given the Panthers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Vikings are ranked 24th).

Chico was led to victory by Josie Carlos and Ellie Harrison. Carlos posted 25 points and four steals, while Harrison went 5 for 11 on her way to 15 points and three steals. Carlos has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Corrina Stephens, who scored eight points and ten rebounds.

Pleasant Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Aj Gambol, who went 9 of 21 en route to 18 points and four blocks. The dominant performance gave Gambol a new career-high in blocks. Kabrey Cooper was another key player, putting up nine points and seven boards.

Chico has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Pleasant Valley, they moved to 15-4 with that defeat, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.

Chico will host Shasta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chico is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season. Pleasant Valley has already played their next game, a 43-42 victory against La Jolla Country Day on the 20th.
