Baseball Recap: Stark County Takes a Loss

Stark County started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Orion. They came up short against the Chargers on Tuesday, falling 13-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rebels of the 9-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2017.

Kaedon Steelman and Connor Daum stepped up to the plate in a big way. Steelman earned one RBI, one run, and three stolen bases, while Daum got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Daum is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Keagan Sparks was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.

Stark County has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-22 record this season. As for Orion, they pushed their record up to 16-8 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stark County will welcome Illini Bluffs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Orion, they will host Rockridge at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rockets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Chargers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
