Baseball Game Preview: Lovett Lions vs. Woodward Academy War Eagles

The Lovett Lions will head out on the road to take on the Woodward Academy War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lovett took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Drew Charter 11-1.

Meanwhile, Woodward Academy made easy work of Lakeside on Thursday and carried off a 16-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the War Eagles.

Lucas Clark spent all three innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits.

At the plate, Harrison Lord was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Chance Dixon was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Woodward Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeside only posted an OBP of .273.

Lovett's victory was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Woodward Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.

Lovett came out on top in a nail-biter against Woodward Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
