Basketball Recap: Karena Eberts leads Miramonte to victory over Ygnacio Valley

Basketball Recap: Miramonte Matadors vs. Ygnacio Valley Wolves

The Miramonte Matadors came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Ygnacio Valley with points to spare, taking the game 70-53. Given Miramonte's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 190th, while the Wolves are ranked 572nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Karena Eberts was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last 17 games she's played. Annie Lindberg was another key contributor, scoring five points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.

Ygnacio Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sa'rye Starks, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Starks is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kasia Brooks, who scored 21 points along with two steals.

Miramonte has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a massive bump to their 17-9 record this season. As for Ygnacio Valley, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 12-13.

Miramonte does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Ygnacio Valley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Concord is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
