Preview: Avella Eagles vs. McGuffey Highlanders
The Avella Eagles and the McGuffey Highlanders will face off at 8:00 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Avella has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Tuesday, Avella came up short against Bentworth and fell 53-43.
Despite the loss, Avella got a solid performance out of Ava Frank, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds. The contest was Frank's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Haleigh Rush, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Avella were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, McGuffey put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 57-26 victory over Jeannette on the road. The result was nothing new for McGuffey, who have now won five games by 27 points or more so far this season.
Avella's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-6. As for McGuffey, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.
Avella came up short against McGuffey in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 62-49. Can Avella avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
