Softball Recap: Aquinas Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Aquinas ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays 5-4. For the Monarchs, this counts as revenge for the 6-1 victory the Bluejays walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Faith Samek spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Aquinas' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brookelynn Banholzer, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one RBI. Another was Grace Masek, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Aquinas' victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-6 record.

Aquinas didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-3 loss against Fort Calhoun on the 13th. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, they have also already played their next contest, a 4-1 defeat against Seward on the 13th.
