Basketball Game Preview: Nazareth Academy vs. Wyomissing Spartans

Nazareth Academy will head out to face off against the Wyomissing Spartans at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Nazareth Academy can't be too worried about heading out to take on Wyomissing: they just beat West Philadelphia at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Nazareth Academy claimed a resounding 62-27 win over West Philadelphia. Given Nazareth Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while West Philadelphia is ranked 265th), the result last Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Wyomissing had no trouble coming through when it counted. They had just enough and edged out Lancaster Catholic 26-24. The victory was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won three contests in a row.

Wyomissing's win came from a few key players Nazareth Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Amaya Stewart, who posted eight points in addition to ten boards and three blocks. She has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 11 times she's played. Audrey Hurleman also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Nazareth Academy's record now sits at 11-13. As for Wyomissing, their record is now 23-4.
