Basketball Game Preview: Holy Names Monarchs vs. Redwood Christian Eagles

The Holy Names Monarchs will challenge the Redwood Christian Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither Holy Names nor Redwood Christian posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Holy Names is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Quarry Lane on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Holy Names lost 45-25 to Quarry Lane. The Monarchs were down 36-15 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Meanwhile, Redwood Christian ended up a good deal behind Making Waves Academy on Thursday and lost 37-22. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1080th, while the Marlins are ranked 510th).

Amaya Rivas was Redwood Christian's leading scorer, having posted six points.

Redwood Christian's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Holy Names, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Holy Names took a serious blow against Redwood Christian when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 71-20. Thankfully for Holy Names, Nia Rogers (who went 9 of 13 on her way to 27 points and seven steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
