Duncanville is fastest riser due to success of boys, girls basketball teams.
Duncanville (Texas) made the biggest jump in the MaxPreps Cup rankings during the month of January, moving all the way from No. 93 in the Fall Sports final rankings to No. 12.
Duncanville made the big move thanks to the success of the boys and girls basketball teams. The boys team is ranked No. 3 in the MaxPreps Top 25 while the girls team is ranked No. 11 in the nation.
Two other teams that moved in from outside the fall sports update include
Lone Peak (Highland, Utah) and
Ponte Vedra (Fla.). Lone Peak is ranked No. 20 in girls basketball while Ponte Vedra is ranked No. 8 in girls soccer.
The January MaxPreps Cup rankings include all of the point totals accumulated during the fall sports season along with point totals accrued from national rankings for boys and girls basketball, wrestling, ice hockey and winter soccer.
The MaxPreps Cup is a formula devised to determine and reward high schools with the most successful and well-rounded athletic programs. Points are awarded based on state championships and runner-up finishes along with placement in Top 25 national rankings for each sport (when available).
The top five in the January MaxPreps Cup standings remains unchanged from the fall update with
Wayzata (Plymouth, Minn.) holding on to a slight lead over
