Baseball Recap: Lyons Takes a Loss

East Rochester hit Lyons with a nine-run third inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lions fell 15-10 to the Bombers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bombers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-1 back in April.

Jacob Bookmiller put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bookmiller was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Austin Rice made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Lyons' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-14 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Brayden Kitchen, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Lyons has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That lines up perfectly with their 5-15 record this season. As for East Rochester, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.

As of now, neither Lyons nor the Bombers have any future games scheduled.
