Baseball Recap: Piedmont Academy Comes Up Short

Piedmont Academy has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stratford Academy Eagles. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Zach Simmons and Ethan Barman stepped up to the plate in a big way. Simmons scored two runs while going 4-for-4, while Barman scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Tyler Griswell was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Piedmont Academy's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Stratford Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Stratford Academy will challenge Athens Christian at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday. Athens Christian's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Stratford Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Piedmont Academy will be paying especially close attention to the Eagles' game: after the Eagles faces off against the Eagles, they'll take on Piedmont Academy again at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
