Football Recap: West Mesa Falls to St. Pius X in First Game of Season

West Mesa kicked off their season on the road on Saturday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 47-29 bruising from the St. Pius X Sartans. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Despite the loss, West Mesa still got an impressive performance from Victor Aguilar, who rushed for 141 yards and two scores. Another player making a difference was Marcos Ochoa, who picked up 68 receiving yards and one TD.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Pius X to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hershul Olloway Jr, who rushed for 176 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries, and also picked up 31 receiving yards. Olloway Jr's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Isaiah Carpenter was another key player, having thrown for 399 yards and five touchdowns.

Looking ahead, West Mesa will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Mayfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Pius X, they will venture away from home to face off against Grants at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
